Draft Constitution - what do you think of the proposed formal aims of Peckham Power?

We've now got our draft constitution into more reasonable shape - many thanks to Cllr Gordon Nardell for his work on this.

We're proposing that Peckham Power becomes a charity, with the purposes ["objects" in Charity Commission speak] as follows:

  • To help people – no matter what their income – to generate and use energy sustainably

  • To provide advice and skills to those who want to install, maintain and develop local and sustainable energy generation and efficiency measures

  •  To work towards the development of community-owned micro-generation facilities

  • To work towards an understanding of energy systems as communally-based rather than individually based

    • To lobby local, national and international government to introduce legislation to protect and further promote sustainable energy.

    • To be open to all in the Borough of Southwark and beyond.

    • To support the harmonious functioning of a multi-racial community of varied socio-economic situations through its work.

    • To organise meetings, training courses and events.

    • To co-operate with similar groups and exchange information and advice with them, for effective outcomes.

    • If the Trustees consider it expedient, to form or promote a trading company to further any of the above objects, on the basis that any profit or surplus generated by such activities will enure for the benefit of the charity

It's quite a list!  What do you think?  Let us know, either on this website, or by coming to the AGM next Saturday, 14 November, lunch at 1.30pm followed by formal meeting start at 2pm, at Bells Gardens Community Centre.

    Best wishes,

    Anna, Lesley and Jack.
