Draft-busting fun and useful - more planned...
Just to add to Jack's comments about our first draft-busting session on Saturday 24 October: it was great fun, and very useful... We enjoyed ourselves so much we finished 3 hours later than planned.
It started with John playing the piano whilst we measured the windows, included 4 people learning how to insulate windows, 3 people who already knew how to do it doing so, at least one person holding on to Jose's waist whilst he balanced on a ladder doing the outside of upstairs windows, and lots of talk about home energy issues.
The brightest star of the day was Andre, a self-builder/sparky/plumber from Lewisham who was stunningly knowledgeable, wonderfully able to explain things in ways that non-experts could understand, and very empowering - "Some of the best self-builders I've known have been single mums... You really can do it...". We want to adopt Andre as our Green Uncle!
The draft-busted house is now a lot warmer, quieter - and gets condensation on the windows in the mornings which it never has before. [We know you need to ventilate your home for a few minutes each day even with draft-busted windows and doors.]
We've already had another person request a small session on Saturday 28 November - space left for one person if you're interested - and are planning others for Saturday 21 November and Saturday 19 December. If you're interested in any of these dates, or would like to have your sash windows draft-busted on another date, let us know at:
