Power Meter Project progress
Just to say that unexpectedly, I got to see inside Sarawak Court very briefly this afternoon. [Sarawak Court is a registered social housing development in Peckham that includes a CHP [combined heat and power] unit. We want to include its electricity production in our power meter project, and have an appointment booked with the engineers responsible for the CHP system for mid-May.
It's a beautiful modern building inside, but what really excited me were the panels with digital numbers showing how much electricity was being produced on the walls of two corridors. Unfortunately, it was just numbers and a total amount produced, so you couldn't see the changes in production over time - but it still looks as though - with any luck - it should be relatively easy to include Sarawak Court in our power meter project.
This would be really great - a renewable electricity site actually in Peckham! We'll keep you posted...

Progress Energy had an aggressive schedule to deploy several million meters in Florida, North Carolina and South Carolina in just 20 months. Over the last few months we’ve been very busy with the boring detailed stuff – testing, redesigning, more testing, more redesigning. Customers of Progress Energy Carolinas may elect to “Net Meter” the generated electricity by their renewable source. One of the central benefits of the smart grid is its ability to empower consumers with better information and tools for managing their energy use. The search giant hasn't revealed much about the specifics of how it will pull energy data into PowerMeter. The first phase of the project is due for completion by 2010 when all smart meters will be in place.
